To assist the Province of Aklan in their efforts to curb the spread of COVID-19 in their local communities, Latter-day Saints Charities (LDSC), the humanitarian arm of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, donated medical supplies to the provincial Government of Aklan.
The much-needed equipment will help protect medical workers and frontliners, who are exposed to the disease on a daily basis.
Local Church leaders of the Kalibo Philippines Stake (diocese) facilitated the turnover of PPE gown sets, boxes of surgical face mask, surgical gloves, face shields, and bottles of isopropyl alcohol.
Held at the Kalibo Stake Center on Friday, 9 October 2020, Kalibo Stake President Ricarto Roberto and Provincial Administrator Atty. Selwyn Ibarreta, who was acting on behalf of Aklan Governor Florencio Miraflores, led the signing of the Deed of Donation.
In his message, President Roberto said, “Heavenly Father and His Son Jesus Christ love each one of us. This donation shows that They know our needs. As we unite in our efforts, we can overcome this pandemic.”
In response to the donation, Atty. Ibarreta expressed his gratitude to the Church and its charity foundation. “On behalf of Gov. Florencio Miraflores and the Provincial Government and the people of Aklan, we would like to give our deep appreciation to this congregation and to the Latter-day Saints Charities. Thank you very much.»
The medical relief will help the medical workers and front liners of Dr. Rafael S. Tumbokon Memorial Hospital, the provincial government referral hospital for COVID-19 patients.
