Latter-day Saints Charities (LDSC), the humanitarian arm of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, donated medical supplies to the San Pablo City District Hospital (SPCDH) in San Pablo City, Laguna as part of its worldwide relief efforts amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The turnover of medical supplies took place on Friday, 5 June 2020 in the City. President Lysander D. Guevarra, President of the San Pablo Philippines Stake (diocese), presented nearly PhP375,000 worth of medical supplies and handed them over to Hon. Loreto “Amben” S. Amante, Mayor of San Pablo City. The supplies consisted of hygiene kits, surgical face masks, bottles of rubbing alcohol, PPE gowns, medical gloves all for the hospital’s frontliners as they serve the community during the pandemic.

Include in the medical supplies were community-grade face masks produced by the Church’s Beehive Clothing facility specifically for distribution to the public in communities they are needed the most.

Owing to the existing health and safety protocols, the turnover took place at the City One-stop Processing Center, devoid of any formal ceremony and audience. Present during the turnover were President Edilberto Z. Andal, first counselor in the San Pablo Stake Presidency; Veronica A. Cornejo, first counselor in the Stake Relief Society Presidency; William Nephi N. Gaw, a member of the Stake High Council; Alexander A. Lorenzo, first counselor in the San Pablo 2nd Ward (congregation) Bishopric; and Vanessa T. Reyes, Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer of San Pablo City.

Prior to the turnover, the donations were picked up from the Naval Reserve Command Headquarters in Intramuros, Manila by Joval A. Fulgar and Alexander A. Lorenzo, members of the Church.

This LDSC donation was made in response to the request sent by Dr. Edgar M. Palacao, OIC-Chief of Hospital, who anticipated a possible upsurge of COVID-19 patients after the Provincial Government of Laguna had designated the SPCDH as a COVID-19 referral hospital.

Dr. Palacol became aware of LDSC and their relief efforts related to COVID-19 through William Nephi N. Gaw who is also a registered nurse who has worked in the said hospital for 10 years.
